Army cadetship group assessment preparation

The 2026 Army cadetship assessment phase includes group assessment. Prepare to understand a task, work constructively with others and explain a supported decision, rather than treating the group as a contest for speaking time.

Save your work in your PSP account. Applications are submitted through the official Defence Forces website.

What the official terms establish

The booklet places group assessment in the assessment phase alongside fitness and the realistic job preview. It does not provide the proprietary live exercise for a preparation service to reproduce.

PSP examples are original cooperative practice, not recalled assessment material. Use them to practise listening, prioritising and explaining a decision. Follow the actual brief and instructions on the day.

An original practice exercise

A volunteer team must move a community event indoors after heavy rain. It has limited time, one accessible room and a budget that cannot cover every planned activity. The group must recommend which activities continue, what information to confirm and how to communicate the change.

Begin by identifying the objective, safety and access constraints, what is known and what needs checking. Invite contributions, compare options and explain the trade-off. The exercise is about the reasoning and cooperation; there is no claimed official answer or hidden military scoring key.

Make your contribution useful

A concise question can help the team more than a long speech. Summarise a genuine point of agreement, identify an unresolved constraint or ask a quieter participant for relevant information. If you disagree, explain the reason and propose a way to resolve it.

Keep track of the task and time without inventing authority. Taking responsibility can involve helping the group organise its work, but it does not require appointing yourself leader or dismissing another person’s idea.

Reflect after practice

Review what you contributed, what you learned from others and whether the final decision used the information available. Did you speak clearly? Did you listen? Did a disagreement improve the plan or simply consume time?

Use those observations to select a next practice task. Do not convert a single group exercise into a judgement about your personality or a prediction of selection. The official assessment determines its own result.

Questions about this stage

Are PSP exercises the actual group tasks?

No. They are original preparation scenarios for cooperative skills.

Should I try to lead immediately?

Respond to the task and the group constructively. Leadership is not established merely by speaking first or taking the most time.
