Use the right interview specification
The 2026 Army cadetship booklet lists planning, decision-making, teamwork, communication, leadership, motivation and discipline, resilience, and information handling among interview areas. It says candidates demonstrate evidence from their own experience.
General Service candidates should follow their invitation. Naval and pilot applicants need their route terms; pilot selection includes different competency wording and specialist assessment. Do not treat a forum list as the universal interview marking scheme.
Build an evidence bank before rehearsing
List real situations from school, college, work, sport, volunteering and responsibilities outside employment. Identify the challenge, your role, the actions you personally took and the result. Include what you learned or would change.
An ordinary example can be strong when it contains specific decisions and ownership. A dramatic example is weak if you cannot explain your contribution. Do not inflate a group achievement into something you led alone.
Practise answering the actual question
Use a simple structure: context, responsibility, action, outcome and reflection. Spend most of the answer on what you did and why. Keep enough context for the listener to understand the difficulty, but avoid a long introduction that leaves no room for evidence.
After speaking or writing, check whether you answered the requested competency. If the question asks about a difficult decision, a general statement that you are decisive is not an example. If it asks about teamwork, make your contribution and the interaction with others visible.
Use feedback as a revision task
Useful practice feedback identifies missing evidence, unclear ownership, unsupported claims, weak reflection or a confusing explanation. It should tell you what to improve in a further attempt. PSP feedback is a preparation aid, not an official board mark.
The 2026 Army cadetship booklet allows requests for official feedback within three months of the result. Check the procedure and deadline for your own competition rather than assuming practice feedback replaces that right.
Questions about this stage
Do I need employment experience for examples?
The Army cadet booklet allows evidence from life, school, university, hobbies, work and other activities. Use genuine experiences relevant to the question.
Can I learn a model answer?
Learn a structure and the questions it helps answer. Supply your own truthful experience rather than memorising invented achievements.
