Independent Irish Defence Forces preparation

A practical Defence Forces aptitude study plan

Build your plan around the time available and the errors you actually make. More attempts are useful only when you understand what you are learning from them.

Begin with a baseline and one clear problem

Read the format guide and complete a diagnostic in a quiet setting. Mark unfamiliar instructions separately from errors in a method you understood. A low first result may mean you need task familiarity before speed work.

Pick one skill for the next session. Use an action you can observe, such as checking every character position or retaining the first calculated value. Avoid vague goals such as being better at aptitude tests.

If you have a week

Use early sessions to understand the relevant formats and work through their explanations. Next, apply the methods to fresh items and review recurring mistakes. Use a later timed attempt to see whether the method survives pace, then return to the specific weak step.

Keep the final preparation manageable. Read the invitation, confirm your device and login, and organise assessment details. Do not replace rest or required application tasks with repeated familiar papers.

If you have two to four weeks

Repeat a learning cycle: coached work, a new attempt, explanation review and a targeted correction. Spread the attention across relevant formats, but spend more time where the cause of mistakes is clear. Record the type of error as well as the score.

Add an interview evidence session and document check to the week. For physical preparation, use the official guidance and qualified instruction appropriate to your current ability. The reasoning plan is not a substitute for the other stages.

Measure transfer rather than remembered answers

Ask whether you can explain the rule and solve an unfamiliar example. Keep deliberate repeats in a review category. Compare practice attempts only when the conditions are reasonably similar.

There is no published PSP schedule that guarantees selection or an official score increase. The plan helps you make purposeful use of time. Your invitation remains the authority for deadlines, test content and permitted aids.

Questions about this stage

How many questions should I do each day?

Use enough fresh practice to test the specific method you are learning. There is no honest universal daily number that guarantees readiness.

Should I spend all my time on my lowest score?

Check the cause first. A misunderstanding may improve through explanation; fatigue, unfamiliar instructions or a small sample can also affect a score.
