Cork City’s Senior Executive Fire Prevention Officer leads a team in the Fire Safety and Prevention Section. The role combines technical fire-safety work, legislation, inspections, enforcement, community education and senior management.

The essential route is a recognised Level 8 degree in engineering or architecture, or a recognised degree whose final examination included an honours-level pass in chemistry or physics, or an equivalent qualification.

Candidates also need satisfactory relevant training and experience and satisfactory administration and management experience, including control and discipline of staff.

What the role does

The officer leads fire-safety staff, administers the Building Control and Fire Services Acts, coordinates inspections and enforcement, manages community fire safety and maintains technical standards.

Duties can include evaluating fire-safety designs, licensing and enforcement work, court evidence, strategy and policy, staff development, quality assurance and liaison with operational fire staff, Council departments and external agencies.

The post is concerned with getting buildings and duty-holders into compliance while protecting the evidential and legal quality of the process.

The booklet’s standard competition section says online assessment may be used when applicant numbers are high. It does not confirm a technical test, numerical reasoning or any other aptitude format for 6062.

The optional Irish-language assessment is a separate route for additional marks. It does not alter the core qualification standard.
