This is a senior fire-service management appointment with operational command responsibility. The post can work across fire operations, technical fire safety, community fire safety and emergency management, and must be capable of serving as Rostered Senior Fire Officer at incidents.
The eligibility breadth is deliberate
The degree routes include Level 8 awards in engineering, architecture or a building-related discipline; certain Level 8 science, technology, fire-safety or emergency disciplines; or a Level 8 degree with a Level 9 fire-related qualification.
Candidates also need knowledge of fire safety, fire operations, major emergency management, industrial processes, telecommunications and IT. At least seven years of relevant experience is required, with training and competence in firefighting, command and coordination, building fire safety, administration, service management and staff management.
Read pages 8 to 11 carefully and upload the stated evidence. This is not a role where a broad management claim can replace technical eligibility.
What the duties show about level
The officer manages health and safety, teams, operational preparedness, mobilisation, communications, fleet, equipment and critical-incident supports. The role also covers major-emergency plans, fire-prevention decisions, certification, licensing, enforcement, community education, budgets, procurement and capital works.
That range suggests at least two anchor examples. One should involve operational command or preparedness. Another should involve prevention, technical fire safety or emergency planning. Add a people or organisational-change example where it is not already visible.
Write command examples without drama
State the risk picture and information available. Explain priorities, resources, communications and inter-agency decisions. Distinguish what you decided from what the incident structure decided collectively.
For a prevention example, show the law or standard, technical issue, engagement with the responsible party and route to compliance. If enforcement became necessary, explain the decision and evidence.
Test status
The booklet says candidates may face online assessment if volumes are large. It does not confirm a technical, numerical, verbal or situational-judgement test. A classifier can see the word “test” here, but an applicant should still read the grammar: it is conditional.
An optional Irish-language assessment is also described for extra marks. It is not part of the essential fire-service route.
Finish the application and monitor publicjobs. Use only a test notice and familiarisation material issued for 6840. The publicjobs application process gives the wider context.
