NAERSA Financial Reporting Accountant 2026: application guide

The professional membership, reporting and audit evidence NAERSA wants, plus a careful reading of the possible selection stages.

Pay stated in the booklet

The booklet gives a salary range of €87,510 to €109,216, including the second long-service increment. Entry rules and pension status affect the applicable point.

What happens next

  1. Application and possible scored shortlisting
  2. Possible preliminary, video or remote interview
  3. Possible questionnaire, report, presentation or work-sample exercise
  4. Final competitive interview

This role sits close to the financial credibility of a new public body. The Financial Reporting Accountant owns statutory reporting, accounting-policy application and major audit relationships while managing a small finance team.

The attraction of building a new function can obscure the hard gate. Full current membership of a prescribed accountancy body supervised by IAASA is essential by 3 September 2026.

The eligibility check has three layers

First, confirm the membership requirement and keep proof available. Second, identify significant post-qualification experience in financial accounting, including preparation of financial statements, plus internal and external audit. Third, test the breadth of your technical record.

The booklet names IFRS or FRS 102, Pension SORP and public-sector accounting. It also wants understanding of pension-scheme or investment-fund accounts, or the ability to acquire it quickly.

Management evidence includes staff, resources and external parties such as auditors or contractors. Senior communication, project management, financial systems, Excel and public-interest awareness are also essential.

What the job will ask you to own

The post reports to the Chief Finance and Investment Officer and acts as a senior manager. Duties include statutory financial statements and annual reporting, correct application of accounting standards, ownership of the accounting policy manual and advice across NAERSA and to the Department of Social Protection.

The role also manages internal audit and the Comptroller and Auditor General relationship, with preparation for Public Accounts Committee appearances when required.

That means a strong example should show more than producing accurate accounts. It should show how you identified a judgement, brought it through review, explained it to non-specialists and protected the reporting deadline.

Write for scored shortlisting

The booklet says applications may be scored against the criteria if volumes are high. That changes the writing standard. Mentioning “financial statements and audit” in a career summary is weaker than separating the scale, standard, issue, personal responsibility and outcome.

Use headings that mirror the essential criteria. Keep desirable points, such as EU-fund verification, regulatory work, governance processes and board reporting, as extra evidence after the essentials are secure.

The publicjobs application process explains why a complete form matters when the application itself creates the rank order.

Is there an aptitude test?

No specific aptitude test is confirmed. The selection menu may include a preliminary or recorded interview, online questionnaires, report writing, a presentation, final interview, remote interview or work sample. A later paragraph says online assessment tests may be used “for certain competitions”.

That stock sentence does not say this competition will use one. Do not assume numerical or verbal reasoning. Prepare for the confirmed facts: a detailed application and in-person interviews expected from late October. If another exercise is issued, follow its instructions.
